The second part of our blog on the importance and effect that radio phone-in’s have had on the world continues with the ability for people to vent anger and disagreement. In Europe recently the Brexit issue has sparked lively debate on both sides of the English Channel.

The Benefit of Radio Phone-In’s – Part 2

Radio phone-in’s are at the very forefront of national and local comment for many European nations. Some people have pointed out that this unofficial debate has prejudiced views. But how can this be? Are politicians the only people that are qualified to decide what is good for a nation?

Radio Power

Radio phone-in’s have the power not just to air views but to open debate that can actually change things. There is a problem however, many phone-in presenters have their own distinct views and to put it simply prejudice others in what they say. These presenters are themselves influenced by other journalists perhaps from the major tabloids. So, what can you believe? What is true and what is not? The key to these questions is to have an open mind when it comes to debate. Listen to the pros and cons of all argument and make your own mind up. Do not let any one person pressurize you to making a decision. It is the radio station manager’s job to find the correct hosts of any show that they air. But again, these people also have their own political agendas. Media moguls are famous for owning newspapers, radio and TV stations to put their point of view to the masses.

Radio Phone-In’s Really Make a Difference

Phone-in’s can really make a difference, the sway of views can spark even bigger debate in other areas of the media and start greater intercourse. But it is at local level that phone-in’s can really help a community. Local issues that really affect people’s lives can be aired and pressure put on to solve them.Local government are particularly swayed by what their community radio stations produce, counselors regularly tune in to local phone-ins to get an idea what their community is thinking. And at this level it is far easier to make changes than at national level by government. There is one last issue to radio phone-in programs, they usually are great fun both to listen to and engage with. There is always one caller that you will have a dispute with, and it might be somebody that you know which makes it even greater fun.
